Google Content Network Comes of Age

adwords bidding strategies | adwords education

The Google content network has finally come of age. At this point I have a lot of clients that get 20% of less of their clicks on Google, and 80% from the content network. BUT, the conversion is still highly variable, and very bad in a lot of industries. So, the traditional advice still holds true for me.

Start at Google.com only, or add the search network if you know what you are doing, and then once you have your CTR up, the account stable and a baseline for conversions you can live with, add the content network in at that point, and see what you get.

If you are a B to B business that isn't in the mortgage or financial industry that doesn't have super expensive clicks, and your product or service is high priced, most of the time you'll do just fine.

Most of the fraudulent activity on the content network is aimed at the super expensive clicks, especially mortgage and medical type terms. I am sure the same is true for the adult and gambling industries but I don't touch those. Life is too short.

Also being able to separate the bids is a must, and remember to line out sites that don't convert. As always, your mileage may vary. I am having some great luck with some of my clients at the moment.

Individual Keyword Performance

Increasing ROI For Our Clients

One of the latest technologies that the search engine marketing department is now utilizing is the ability to track individual keyword performance. We have always been able to determine which group of keywords performed best, but now we can determine which individual search query is the top performer for our clients.

This information is vital during our optimization process and is used to create better advertisements as time goes on. To explain how this works, imagine that you have an online pet food store, and you are advertising on a number of keywords related to dog food. You might be advertising on 300 different terms and phrase combinations, but out of all the activity, you find that while many phrases generate traffic and visitors to your site, only five end up with people BUYING something.

You can then drop the unproductive keywords from your budget while increasing the budget of the productive keywords, and exponentially increase the ROI of your advertising. Once armed with this knowledge, you can go to other pay-per-click search engines such as Yahoo, and apply what you already know is producing a profitable result. You can roll out your advertising campaign to other search engines only on known profitable keywords, and decimate your competition!

Adwords Video Questions - Running the Business

adwords and clickbank strategies | adwords education

Here's a question about the Google Videos I got from someone
and my answer, which might be good to check out if you are
considering doing Adwords for a living:

First, the question:

comments: Hello Steve,Loved your google adwords video. It's a great primer on using PPC marketing.

I have a few questions about your complete video series, but first a quick
rundown on my background.I have been a fulltime webmaster and web designer
for the last 4 years.

I have built all types of sites for customers, ran my own networks, marketed
clickbank ad copy sites (using PPC for promotion), etc. but recently have
found myself interested in the next level of site promotion using PPC ads
only.

I have had some levels of sucess, but the other day I came across a
business for sale on eBay that blew me away. (You can email me for the link)

Now, I have read a lot of google adword ebooks, training videos, seminars
and everything else you can imagine and have never came close to the sales
and effective promotion that this site has acheived.

Do your products cover the granular details of ppc strategies that can produce results like this?

Thanks again for your time.

Best Regards,
Thomas

The answer:

Well Thomas, I don't want to promise you the moon
like a lot of "gurus" out there.

These videos weren't created for professional
webmasters like you, but more our clients,
who are not webmasters and needed to learn
how to manage their own google accounts.
